Abstract: The authors of the publication aimed to conduct a comparative study of the effectiveness of improving hemostasis with the help of tranexamic acid and the combination of tranexamic acid with etamsylate in patients with thoracic trauma complicated by hemopneumothorax. Forty patients with thoracic trauma and hemopneumothorax participated in the study. Surgical correction included drainage of the pleural cavity according to Bulau. In 20 patients, the authors of the work used tranexamic acid in widely recommended doses as an antifibrinolytic agent. Another 20 patients received for this purpose tranexamic acid and etamsylate in a daily dose of up to 3000 mg. Patients of both research groups received fluid resuscitation, which did not differ significantly in volume and components (plasma substitutes, red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma). During 24 hours, the researchers monitored the rate of fluid loss through pleural drainage and monitored hemoconcentration indicators. The combined use of tranexamic acid and etamsylate contributed to a significant decrease in blood loss from the pleural cavity.
