Abstract

The review of the results of clinical research revealed a significant connection of thyropathology with the increased risk of Parkinson’s disease (PD). The topical issue now is to specify the influence of thyroid hormones and autoimmune disorders among PD patients. The purpose of the work is to establish the frequency of autoimmune thyroid pathology among PD patients. Materials and methods. Ultrasound examination of thyroid gland (TG) was performed, thyroid status (thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and free thyroxine (T4) levels) as well as the indicators of antithyroid antibodies to thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin (TPO, TG) and stimulating antibodies to TSH receptors (TSHRAb) were evaluated among 45 patients aged 50-70 years old with PD of various degrees of severity as the indicators of the state of humoral antithyroid immunity. Results. The presence of thyroid gland autoimmune pathology was revealed among 31 PD patients (68.8%). The largest number of patients with autoimmune thyroiditis (AITD) had a tremulous form of PD (91.3%). The patients with akinetic-rigid-tremorous form (84.62%) were in the second place while the patients with an akinetic-rigid form (11.11%) were in the third place. According to hormonal status, euthyroidism was present in 25.8%of cases, hypothyroidism in 54.8%, hyperthyroidism in 19.35%. According to the thyroid gland ultrasound examination, in all the cases there was structure heterogeneity and capsular thickening, which are the signs of AITD. Conclusions. Patients with autoimmune thyroid dysfunction have an increased risk of developing Parkinson’s disease. The presence of antithyroid antibodies is associated with neurodegenerative disorders, including Parkinson’s disease.
