Consequences and impact of surgical menopause on the cardiovascular system

Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are widespread in industrially developed countries and represent one of the most common causes of death among women. It has also been proven that estrogen deficiency in postmenopausal women influences the development of cardiovascular pathology. The aim of the study: A comprehensive investigation of the cardiovascular system in women with surgical menopause over a prolonged period of observation. Materials and Methods: A total of 331 participants were selected for the study: 260 – with surgical menopause who had undergone complete oophorectomy during reproductive age due to benign gynecological diseases; 41 – with natural menopause; and 30 women of similar age with preserved menstrual cycles. Hormone replacement therapy prescribed by a gynecologist-endocrinologist was received by 160 participants with surgical menopause
