Abstract

A characteristic milestone of today is the relentless and rapid development of science, the use of the latest technologies, and artificial intelligence. Fundamental disciplines of medicine, in general, and anatomy, in particular, are no exception. There is no doubt that anatomy is the basis for the study of medicine. But we must remember the contributions made by the founders of medicine in those days when the main tools were a scalpel, a microscope, eyes and hands. One of these scientists was Ivan Karlovych Wagner, whose works are still used by scientists in many countries around the world. The purpose of our work is to recall the contribution of Ivan Karlovych Wagner to the creation and development of the Department of Anatomy of the Kharkiv National Medical University and the study of his personality as a world-class scientist, the founder of the department, scientific director, teacher and mentor of future doctors.
