Abstract: According to statistics, in recent years there has been increasing trend of deteriorating health status of the population of Ukraine. Particular attention should be given pathology of the cardiovascular system (CVS), namely, infective endocarditis (IE). Purpose: prevention of infective endocarditis as the underlying disease, and as a complication of primary. Materials and methods: After analyzing principles were the following: IE - is a life-threatening disease, prevention of which is more preferable than cure, the triggers of the development of IE are the background of CVD, bacteremia caused by microbes, developed primarily to invasive dental procedures, as well as the manipulation of the intestinal tract ( GI) tract and urogenital tract (UGT). Antibiotic prophylaxis for IE is recommended for patients with underlying cardiovascular disease when performing any dental procedures. Amoxicillin, still remains the drug of choice for prevention of IE. If one is allergic to penicillin he/she is prescribed cephalosporins 1 and 2 generations, macrolides. However, antibiotic prophylaxis is not recommended for various manipulations on the gastrointestinal tract and UGT, here recommend a course of antimicrobial therapy, aimed at the destruction of enterococcus. One of the reasons is resistance to antibiotics of streptococcus, but nowhere refers to the patients S.viridans. In addition to biological reasons for the resistance of pathological microorgnizms to drugs, not less important factors are irrational antibiotic treatment due to lack of accountability of doctors and patients. Conclusions: For an accurate assessment of the effectiveness of antibiotic prophylaxis of IE it is requires to research involving patients undergoing manipulation associated with bacteremia.
