The significant role of disinfectants in the fight against hantaviruses

Abstract

Do they know when to take action if an infected area is found? Are vans and equipment properly cleaned? Are reasonable written recommendations provided to customers after detecting rodent tracks? Are young or inexperienced technicians being sent to areas with a high degree of contamination without sufficient control? These questions are not intended to intimidate. They relate to professionalism. Although hantavirus is rare, the risk of rodent-borne diseases is not purely theoretical. Every excrement, footprint, nest and infested depression is evidence that rodents live in the same rooms as humans. The best answer is not panic, but competent, evidence-based pest management, carried out by trained professionals who understand both the nature of the pest and the risks to public health.
