Abstract

Oncostatin M (OSM) is an inflammatory cytokine that belongs to the interleukin-6 (IL-6) class of cytokines. Members of this family mostly associated with cardiac hypertrophy due to activation of the common coreceptor gp130. Influence of OSM on cardiomyocytes in human is still controversial. Functional studies revealed that OSM is sufficient to induce dedifferentiation of cardiomyocytes in vitro and in vivo. OSM induces heterodimerization of gp130 with the OSM receptor β. Left ventricle (LV) remodeling is known as predictor of macrovascular outcomes in patients with arterial hypertension (AH) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
