This publication dwells upon Dmytro Serhiyovych Lovlya (1895–1955), who was a prominent microbiologist and organizer of higher medical education in Ukraine. As director of the Kharkiv Medical Institute (1929–1937), he significantly reformed the institution by creating three faculties, strengthening the material base, and increasing the number of students, leading to its recognition as the best medical institute in Ukraine in 1935. After wrongful arrest and subsequent rehabilitation, he returned to medical work, eventually becoming director of the newly established Chernivtsi Medical Institute in 1945. There, he successfully overcame severe post-war challenges, rebuilt the institution, and was deeply respected until his death in 1955.
