Abstract
Due to the high PA level of examined students, the possible risks of sedentary behavior currently should be negated. However, as some conditions still may develop even despite of adequate PA, more profound study is necessary in that area. Moreover, as 57% of PA is represented by transport-related, possible relocation of workplace or residence may lead to decrease of that parameter that will show a significant effect on people’s health increasing the risks of pathological conditions development. Therefore, the further research of possible prevention means and correction tactics of sedentary lifestyle is of great importance.
Description
Sedentary behavior is defined as any waking behavior characterized by an energy expenditure less than 1.5 metabolic equivalents (METs), while in a sitting, reclining or lying posture (Tremblay M.S., Aubert S. et al., 2017). The effects of SB include the increased risk of development of cardiovascular diseases, obesity, colon cancer, diabetes, lipid disorders, depression, osteoporosis, back pains, muscular weakness, deep vein thrombosis, anxiety, and many others (Katzmarzyk P.T. et al., 2016; Thyfault J.P. et al., 2015). The most efficient way of attenuation of possible SB effects is still considered to be the high level of PA (Ekelund et al., 2016), even though some studies already showed that the negation isn’t total (Greer A.E. et al., 2015). As medical students have to spend many hours sitting during classes and self-studying time, the research of SB and PA among medical students is important aiming for early prevention of mentioned above pathological states development.
The aim of research was to study the peculiarities of sedentary behavior in medical students.
