Abstract

The BMI is simplest and significant indicator in preventive medicine in order to define the groups of people having risk factors of any pathology development. 2. The significant correlation between reduced BMI indicator and gender has been found in females thus concluding that additional examination aimed at revealing of reason of underweight is highly recommended.

Description

According to the data of WHO, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome are considered as the most prevalent pathologies among people even of middle adulthood to retirement. There are many risk factors resulting in formation of any of mentioned pathology such as peculiarities of lifestyle, unbalanced diet, hypodynamia, bad habits and other. However among many risk factors there is one common and that is body mass index (BMI). The main point of medicine is prevention of any pathology development. Considering BMI, control of it is an effective method of prevention of various pathology including hypertensive disease, ischemic disease of heart, metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus, obesity and other eating disorders. The aim of the study was to analyze BMI among students of Kharkiv National Medical University and to determine group of people with higher risk of pathology development.
