The image of an island plays the important role in English culture: in architecture we can find crannogs (artificial islands in the middle of a lake), in mythology, history of the English language the research by many specialists has shown that the name of the Isle of Man derives from Manannan, the Celtic god of the sea; in literature a lot of island works are represented. The metaphor “person-island” also figures in the island literary works of the first half of the XX century. The world labor market places demands on the training of highly qualified people specialists, which leads to improving the quality of professional training competencies. One of the components of professional competence of a specialist medical field has a communicative component. Formation of professional communicative competence occurs in the learning process linguistic disciplines, in particular, Latin medical terminology. Education plays a significant role in people’s life around the world. Education in general sense, is a form of learning in the knowledge, skills and habits of a group of people is transferred from one generation to the next through teaching, training or research. One of the key goals of education is to prepare a population for its future which includes enhancing knowledge and developing technological capabilities for sustainable growth and development. The purpose of this article, is to state the competence of the distance learning in Medical Schools in Ukraine; the positive and negative impact it had on students. Speaking to a few students, everyone of them had different takes on the new mode of learning that had to be adopted due to the pandemic. On survey, there tend to be more negative impacts than the positive.Item The Elective Discipline «Prescription: History, Grammar and Peculiarities of Prescribing Medicine Forms» Students` Guide to Practical Classes for the 2nd Year Students (Specialty 222«General medicine»)(2021-12-16) Derevyanchenko, Natalya; Lozenko, Viktoriia; Perekrest, MarynaItem The English suffix –ic and –al (Latin –icus, a, um and –alia,e) in anatomical terminology(2021-10-29) Лозенко, Вікторія Василівна; Лозенко, Виктория Васильевна; Lozenko, ViktoriiaIt is worth focusing on study of Latin and English anatomical terminology because any doctor or a medicine specialist must master professional language denoting names of bones, intestines, organs of vision, hearing etc. The suffixes “–ic” and “–al” are considered the most widespread in Latin and English anatomical terminology. These suffixes are peculiar for adjectives. There is an insignificant difference in writing of these suffixes: the English suffix is characterized by writing only “-ic” and “-al” at the end of a term. Meanwhile the Latin suffix is written by means of adding the endings –us, a, um to –ic and –is, e to –al. One who studies medicine knows that –icus points to the masculine gender, -ica is peculiar for feminine and –um always denotes neutrum (Engl. neuter). The Latin adjective with –alis, e belongs to so called adjectives of two endings: –alis is the common ending for masculine and feminine, and –e is the special ending for neuter.Item Etymology of the botanical name “shepherd’s purse” in English and Latin(2021-10-15) Лозенко, Вікторія Василівна; Лозенко, Виктория Васильевна; Lozenko, ViktoriiaEtymology is known to play the important role in comprehension of history of the origin of a word, its functions in linguistics. It is worth focusing on the origin of the Latin botanical name of a plant Capsella bursa pastoris. This plant is known by the English name shepherd’s purse (literal translation from Latin). The choice of research is determined by topicality of etymological studies. In addition, the plant Capsella bursa pastoris \ shepherd’s purse is widely used in medicine for heart and blood circulatory diseases or abnormal conditions (low blood pressure, nervous heart dysfunctions, headache, blood in the urine etc.). A number of scientists has analized Capsella bursa pastoris in linguistics (K. Blynov, N. Borysova) and medicine (H. R. Roberts, J. Warren and J. Provan), which emphasizes the fact of importance of the present research.Item Floristic metaphors in Latin and English pharmaceutical terminology(Educator, 2021) Лозенко, Вікторія Василівна; Лозенко, Виктория Васильевна; Lozenko, ViktoriiaThe article highlights metaphorization of floristic vocabulary in Latin and English pharmaceutical terminology. Nominations of plants are considered to be motivated semantically: the inner form of metaphors proves explicit or implicit one. There are used the cognitive method (works by Y. Stepanov (Stepanov, 2001), V. Telia (Telia, 1988), A. Wierzhbicka (Wierzhbicka, 1969) and method of metaphor (works by N. Arutyunova (Arutyunova, 1990), G. Lakoff and M. Johnson (Lakoff and others, 1980), V. Telia (Telia, 1988) for the research. The article focuses on primary floristic nominations and secondary ones based on associative peculiarities. The comparative method enables to examine the specificity of floristic metaphors in Latin and English. The research has found motivation of metaphoric nomination in English and Latin medical terminology. In addition, there have been found similar and peculiar features in nominations of plants, flowers, bushes, trees in English and Latin of medicine. The process of methaphorization is inherent for majority of Latin and English pharmaceutical phytonyms. It leads to the conclusion that metaphorization proves considerable process for comprehension of specificity of different national linguistic view of the world.Item French intellectual drama of the 1930s in the context of existentialist literature(2021-03-27) Перекрест, Марина Ігорівна; Перекрест, Марина Игоревна; Perekrest, MarynaThe main feature of French intellectual drama was existentialism, which is characterized by the awareness of each person as a unique, inimitable being. The existence of each person is considered absolute. Existentialism, together with intellectual drama, seeks to comprehend being as the whole of object and subject. The core of intellectual drama is that everyone decides the most important thing for themselves. It is we who give our lives a certain meaning. The highest value of life is seen in the freedom of the individual. The French intellectual dramas of the 1930s are full of philosophical problems. Representatives of the current understand the world as somewhat hostile to the individual, perceive it as chaotic, disharmonious, absurd. The processes taking place in this world, full of internal contradictions, are devoid of regularities, logical connection, time sequence. Representatives of the existential direction see the highest vital value in the freedom of the individual. The existence of man is interpreted by them as a drama of freedom, because at each phase of self-creation of the individual it depends on choice, decision.Item Game based learning: reasons why should we use games in Latin language and medical terminology course(Астрая, 2021-11-26) Перекрест, Марина Ігорівна; Перекрест, Марина Игоревна; Perekrest, MarynaAcquisition of language skills in the process of educational activity and the choice of effective methods of mastering educational material is one of the urgent problems of studying Latin and medical terminology in higher education. The practical purpose of this work is the problem of successful integration of lexical online games in the course "Latin language and medical terminology". At the initial stage, the basis for further understanding of Latin and medical terminology is laid.Game based used in the classroom of the Latin language and medical terminology of the language is an important component of the lesson. Observations show that games contribute to the fulfillment of important methodological tasks. They create psychological readiness of students for the lesson. Provide the natural need for multiple repetition of language material. Train students in choosing the right lexical component, which is preparation for the lesson. Game-based learning includes activities that are inherently similar to game-play. Gamification and game-based learning promote engagement and sustained motivation in learning, but they do not necessarily lead to improved learning outcomes. The game is a teaching tool that allows you to make the learning process exciting and interesting, and activates the mental activity of students. The game helps to create a trusting and relaxed atmosphere during the lesson, and helps to maintain students' interest in the subject. Online games, which are located on different educational platforms, are used as a means of developing lexical skills at the initial stage of learning Latin language and medical terminology, when play is an integral part of the learning process, is used regularly and systematically, based on program material and with the aim of active assimilation of lexical minimums.Item Gamification as a New Format of Projects Method in Blended Learning Conditions Studying Disciplines of the Pedagogical Cycle(2021-12) Nalyvaiko, Oleksii; Zhukova, Oksana; Shvedova, Yaroslava; Ivanenko, Liudmyla; Nekrashevych, TetianaThe paper discusses the main issues of organizing the learning process based on the gamification. The publication analyzes the main provisions of the application of elements of gamification in the process of teaching students. The study proposes to consider gamification as a new format of the project method in the context of blended learning in the study of disciplines of the pedagogical cycle by students of humanitarian and natural specialties. We analyzed the main didactic Classcraft platform capabilities. Developed by students within the framework of the “Pedagogy” discipline a brief structure of the “Adventurers” quest was present. The algorithm of the students' work included following steps: choosing a project theme (name of the game); composition of the game (stages); development of the game as a digital product (elements); analysis of the implementation of the game as a digital product (difficulties and prospects); analysis of the results of joint digital project activities of students, indicating positive and negative aspects. We considered the positive aspects of using digital applications and platforms to improve teacher skills. The conclusions provide consolidated proposals for the use of gamification, such as: its implementation in the educational process is aimed at the development of intellectual, social, emotional, technological segments of the personal development of students; the use of gamification has a positive impact on the development of students and teachers soft skills and helps to improve their professional skills.Item Historical discourse of distance education(Логос, 2020-12-11) Перекрест, Марина Ігорівна; Перекрест, Марина Игоревна; Perekrest, MarynaDistance education began to develop actively in Western Europe and the United States. In Ukraine, distance learning began to be introduced later than in Western countries. But now distance learning is becoming a more popular form of higher basic education than distance learning. Distance education offers a better level of knowledge because it has greater opportunities, such as: visualization of material, interactivity, computer-based learning environment, cyber classes, group management, teacher control, self-control, student self-improvement.
