Abstract: Inflammatory mechanisms play a key role in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus. Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and Interleukin-6 (IL-6) are two major proinflammatory markers or cytokines, acting primarily as autocrine and/or paracrine factors. IL-6 independently predicts the risk of type 2 diabetes. However, IL-6b causal role in the development of diabetes is still unclear.
